After he was born, I almost became a babysitter. I had to amuse him after school. I would make faces and sing to him when he was crying. Sometimes I even carried him everywhere in our yard to refresh him while my parents were busy. What I liked to do best was to feed him when looking after him. They have an amazing four-part philosophy, and here is the first part: Ants never give up. If they're headed somewhere and you try to stop them, they'll look for another way. They'll climb over, or around. They keep looking for another way to get where they're supposed to go. What a great philosophy.
Second, ants think summer all winter, That's an important idea. You can't be so childish as to think summer will last li1revcr. So amts tare gathering their winter food in the middle of summer. The third part of the wit philosophy is that wits think winter all summer. During the winter ants remind themselves, \"This won't last long, we'll soon be out of here.\" And on the first wane day, the wits acre out. If it turns cold again, they'll dive back down, but then they come out on the first warm day. They can't wait to get out.
And here's the last part of the ant philosophy. How much will an ant gather during the
summer to prepare for the winter? tic always tries his best. In other words, if an ant can do more, it does.

Scientists are asking: What is the best way to fight climate change? A new study says: Plant many trees; one trillion trees, maybe more. Swiss scientists say there is enough room for that many trees. In their report in the journal Science, they say there is enough space on the earth, which could cover nine million square kilometers, an area the size of the United States. Trees take carbon dioxide(二氧化碳)out of the air, and in return, put oxygen (氧气)back into the air. The study estimated(估计)that over a long period of time, the trees could take in almost 750 billion tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. That is about as much carbon as humans have put into the atmosphere in the past 25 years. What is so bad about carbon dioxide? The gas traps heat, causing temperatures to rise.
Much of the gain(好处)from planting trees will come quickly because trees remove more carbon from the air when they are younger, the researchers said. The place that has the best possibility for removing the most carbon is the area close to the equator. This method would also have the lowest cost, says the study co-author Thomas Crowther. This is by far, the cheapest and the most effective climate change solution, he said. The six nations with the most room for new trees are Russia, the United States, Canada, Australia, Brazil and China.
Before his study, Crowther thought that there were other more effective ways to fight climate change besides cutting emissions(排放). For example, people could change their diets by no longer eating meat. But, he said, tree planting is far more effective because trees remove so much carbon dioxide from the air.

During my first two weeks at the University of California, Berkeley, I experienced some unexpected, funny, and sometimes embarrassing situations. Allow me to share some with you. But first, let me give advice to other foreign students who plan to study in the United States. Check the weather before coming! I was very sure that California was sunny all year around so I left all my jackets and sweaters in Paris. It was a huge mistake! It rained almost every day during the first week in Berkeley.
I have to say that I quickly forgot these unlucky events. Life in Berkeley is very pleasant and everything is so easy compared to Paris. For example, in only 24 hours I bought a mobile phone and rent a flat. What's more, almost all the shops are open on Sunday.
The first thing that surprised me is that students may come late to class. They freely enter and leave the classroom many times during class. In France, students respect the teacher's lesson, so they are never late and they leave the classroom only at the end of the class.
The local people in California are in general very nice, open and active. However, I am not totally used to their habits yet. Indeed, I was used to shaking my friends' hands every day in Paris. During my second day at Berkeley, I shook the hand of one of my classmates whom I had met the day before and he told me \"I think we already met!”
I live a great experience at present, and I would just encourage any student to become a member in a program at UC, Berkeley.

B. students in America are never late for class C. life in Berkeley is enjoyable for the writer D. people in California are not so friendly

阅读短文, 并按要求后完成66-70题。
Not all memories are sweet. Some people spend all their lives trying to forget bad experiences. Violence and traffic accidents can leave people with terrible physical and mental scars. Often they appear again in dreams.
Now American researchers think they are close to developing a pill(药丸), which will help people forget bad memories. The pill is designed to be taken immediately after a frightening experience. They hope it might reduce, or possibly erase(抹去)the effect of sad memories.
In November, some scientists tested a drug(药)on people in the US and France. The drug stops the body producing chemicals that fix memories in the brain. So far the research has suggested that only the mental effects of memories may be reduced, not that the memories are erased.
The research has caused plenty of argument. Some think it is a bad idea, while others support it.
Supporters say it could lead to pills that prevent or treat soldiers' troubling memories after war. They say that there are many people who suffer from terrible memories.
\"Some memories can destroy(破坏)people's lives. They come back to you when you don't want to have them in a dream. They usually come with very sad feeling.” said Roger Pitman, a scientist of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. \"This could relieve(减轻)a lot of that suffering.\"
But those who are against the research say that it is very dangerous to change memories. The reason is that memories give us our identity(身份). They also help us all get away from the mistakes of the past.
\"All of us can think of bad events in our lives that were terrible at the time but make us who we are. I'm not sure we want to erase those memories,\" said Rebecca Dresser.
