by the time 是过去完成时和将来完成时的标志词。例如：
*By the time the tests took place, the athletes had had a full 17 hours notice. (到检测开始时，离运动员得到通知已经整整17个小时了)
*By the time he will have arrived at my hotel. (到时他可能已经到达我住的宾馆了)
如果是系动词 be，应该用过去时或将来时，例如：
*By the time he died, he was amillionaire. (到他去世的时候，他已经是一位百万富翁了)
*By the time we get back from dinner, will be already in bed. 到我们吃完饭回来时，她可能已经睡下了。
